The standing model is a recreation of the Kawanashi Shiden Type 11. Evolved from the Kawanashi N1k1 seaplane, the Japanese Navy had a unique pedigree among the world's WWII long-plane fighters. In January 1942, Kawanishi Aircraft began modifying the aircraft. This project was soon officially approved under the designation N1k1-J, with the prototype flying in December 1942. The TAMIYA model kit version impresses to a large extent with its accuracy of fit and attention to detail.
